Peace Through Faith

Adapted from an excerpt of Pastor Ruffin Hill’s Sermon titled:“Perfect Peace”

Thinking About Peace is Important

If it feels like peace has been coming up a lot lately, that’s intentional. I’ve noticed it in my own life, and I suspect many of you have as well. Peace is something we all want, but often struggle to hold onto. The book of Isaiah has a way of bringing us back to this truth again and again, reminding us that real peace isn’t tied to circumstances, schedules, or solutions we can manufacture. It’s rooted in where our trust is placed. In a season where worry, noise, and uncertainty feel constant, it’s worth slowing down and letting Scripture shape how we think about peace and where we look to find it.

Perfect Peace Comes by Faith

One of the great promises of Scripture is peace. Not temporary calm, not the absence of trouble. Real peace with God. Romans 5:1 puts it plainly:

“Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

That word therefore points us back to what Christ has already done. Romans 4:25 explains that Jesus was

“delivered for our offenses and raised again for our justification.”

Because of His death and resurrection, something remarkable happens when we place our trust in Him.

Our sin—every offense, every failure—is charged to Christ. And His righteousness is credited to us by faith. The account is settled. Paid in full. As the old hymn says, “Jesus paid it all.”

This is what the Bible calls justification by faith. Peace with God does not come through effort, intellect, or good intentions. It comes through trusting what Christ has already finished.

Living by Faith

Scripture consistently reminds us that faith is not how we live in our salvation. It’s not just our salvation.

  • “For by grace are ye saved through faith…” (Ephesians 2:8)

  • “The just shall live by faith.” (Romans 1:17)

  • “This is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.” (1 John 5:4)

Faith is simple trust. We practice it every day without thinking about it. When you sit down on a bench, you don’t inspect it first, you trust it to hold you. That’s faith. And that same kind of trust is how God calls us to walk with Him.

Faith is not blind optimism. It is confidence in a God who has never failed.

A Picture of Faith: The Woman with the Issue of Blood

Mark 5 gives us a powerful picture of faith in action.

A woman had suffered with an issue of blood for twelve years. She had tried everything. Physicians. Remedies. Treatments. She spent all she had. And instead of getting better, she grew worse.

The world had no answer for her. But then she heard about Jesus.

She believed that if she could simply touch the hem of His garment, she would be healed. And when she reached out in faith, healing came immediately. Jesus knew power had gone out from Him, and He told her:

“Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace.”

She found what no physician could provide. Peace and healing that came from Christ alone.

Faith Opens the Door to the Heart

The Bible tells us that faith opens the door of our hearts to Christ:

“That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith…” (Ephesians 3:17)

When we receive Christ by faith, the love of God fills the place that only God can fill. We begin to understand deeply what Jesus has done for us. And in that understanding, we find fullness and peace.

One statement puts it well:

“Little faith will bring your soul to heaven, but great faith will bring heaven to your soul.”

Many of us trust God with our eternity, but struggle to trust Him with our daily lives. We hand Him our soul, then try to manage everything else ourselves. And that’s where peace often slips away.

Faith That Leads to Peace

Scripture is clear:

  • Without faith, it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6).

  • Faith produces action and obedience (James 2:20).

  • And faith anchors us in a God who is bigger than every problem we face.

Perfect peace was purchased by the blood of Jesus Christ.

That peace is lived out by faith. Faith in a God who has never failed.

When our trust rests fully in Him, peace follows.
